Pastoral Update

From the Council President…

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

“Are we there yet?” My 4 year old daughter asks this – repeatedly – every time we go on a trip. You may beasking that same question as Jordan goes on a trip – the journey to find a new pastor. I think we can deal with both of these situations with the same advice – be patient.

By now I am sure you have heard or read that the members of the Council and the Call Committee workedtogether for 2 months to complete the Ministry Site Profile (MSP). The MSP was then approved for publication by Bishop Zeiser. The job posting for a full-time pastor at Jordan Lutheran is on the Synod’s website, and any ordained member of the ELCA can review the MSP to learn about Jordan before applying for the position. We have opted to use the single candidate approach (instead of multiple candidates) for the interview process. Now, here’s where that advice comes in – be patient. In addition, keep praying for the Call Committee members as they are guided through this process. Also remember that there is a tremendous amount of confidentiality during this process, but we will share updates as they are available.

This is not the only journey that Jordan is going through right now. We are embarking on the journey of the 5 task forces. You all received the e-mail or letter with the summary and our top 5 priorities/goals from the Celebrating God Connecting People retreat. The Worship Review task force had their first meeting on August 18th and the New Member Follow-up task force met on August 22nd. The Communications task force is currently involved with the website, wiring and WiFi. The task force to Review Committee Structure will begin sometime in the Fall. The final task force involves reaching out to inactive members and others. We need more time to explore this plan and will definitely be asking for congregational involvement in this task. I hope you will be able to assist Jordan to accomplish these goals.

I wish you peace and safe travels. I hope that wherever your journey takes you, that you know you can always return home to Jordan and walk with us through our journeys. Consider these words from Ecclesiastes 9:11. “I returned and saw under the sun that – the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to men of understanding, nor favor to men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all.”
