Vacation Bible School (VBS)

This year’s Vacation Bible School will be July 9 – 13, 2012 and our theme is SKY! Everything Is Possible With God!

We always look forward to the middle of July each year as it means it’s time  for VBS. Every year, we rely on volunteers to help make our program successful. In order to begin planning for a successful and fun VBS program for the children of Jordan and the surrounding community, it is important to fill several key positions soon after we have chosen a program. Filling these positions eliminates the need for any one person to shoulder all the responsibility. Key positions include:

Materials Coordinator is responsible for collecting and distributing materials and donations – should be detail-oriented. All work is competed prior to the start of VBS. we will be placing a joint order with 2 other churches this year to increase our curriculum savings.

Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for advertising and filling volunteer positions needed for VBS. A list of previous volunteers would be provided, as well as a complete list of positions. The person in this position would not need to be present the week of VBS (but is certainly welcome to be!) as all the work is completed prior to the start of the program.

Stage & Props Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the designing, creating, setting up and tearing down the stage set for VBS. It is much easier than what it may sound like, though it does require a time commitment. We coordinate efforts with 3 other churches which allows us to share the cost and the workload amongst more people. Group Publishing puts out a DVD that shows ideas for creating a fantastic stage set, as well as templates for creating may set items. Creativity and basic carpentry skill are a plus for this position.

VBS Director involves overseeing the above positions to ensure that all three areas mesh cohesively for a successful VBS. This person would be responsible for any staff training and for working with the Volunteer Coordinator to disseminate all necessary information to the VBS Staff.

Jamie will be available as an informational resource for all positions – you won’t have to forge your way all on your own! In addition, the Group Publishing material is excellent and makes things quite easy. If you are interest in any of these positions or have questions about any of them, please contact Jamie Edelman at the church office at 610-395-5912 or christianedu.jordanlutheran@verizon.net . Please open yourself to the possibility of volunteering your time and talents.
